Top Causes of Foot Pain

After hours on your feet from work or constant activity, the shoes get kicked off, perhaps the socks too. You elevate your feet, take and solidify them in a tub of ice and alas your foot pain comes back the next day. Perhaps take a rest day, perhaps get a massage, or search google to exhaustion. Then, life gets in your way and once again you are put through agony. What is this throbbing, this burning, or this pinching sensation!? Here are the top 5 causes and diagnoses of foot pain.

  1. Plantar Fasciitis

On your feet constantly? Do you have pain on the bottom of your foot? Then you very well may be looking at plantar fasciitis as your issue. Most commonly, this is seen with the 30-65 year-old population since these individuals are more prone to pain due to a lessening in the elasticity of the tissues in the feet.

TIP: Massage and stretch constantly! Work on the calves, ankles, and bottom of the feet.

  1. Bunions and Hammertoe

Pain on the sides of your feet, or on your toes? Do you find yourself having to buy wider shoes? Joints along the foot often become painful due to the foot chafing against the shoes. This action causes swelling, inflammation, and irritation.

TIP: Get shoes fitted to your foot! Just like personalities, everyone’s foot is different!

  1. Calluses

Are you walking constantly or applying pressure or friction to the feet? This could lead to calluses, which is a hard formation of tissue. This is great! It is the body’s way of protecting you from blisters, which can be much more painful.

TIP: Give the feet a well needed break by soaking them.

  1. Achilles Tendinopathy

Perhaps the pain is more on your heel which is causing you the inability to walk properly or to bend the foot normally. If there is a sharp pain in the heel, take a break!

TIP: Give those feet a break and rest!

  1. Morton’s Neuroma

Last but not least, if the pain is in the ball of your foot, radiating towards the toes, then you may be faced with Morton’s Neuroma. No worries though, it is not as terrifying as the name portrays.

TIP: Try arch supports, foot pads, custom orthotics. These will give your foot more cushion when you walk
