What is the biggest misconception about physical therapy?

The biggest misconception my patients have told me is that they thought we just help old people and people in wheelchairs.

What is the biggest misconception people have?

They think that once they get rid of their pain, then they will get healthy, exercise and lose weight. The truth is that your pain will go away when you first get healthy by exercising, eating well, and taking care of yourself.

What do you love most about your profession?

It is very rewarding to see a patient’s confidence shine following physical therapy. The change we can create in people’s lives is profound. A healthier life brings return of hope, joy, improved relationships and even professional success.

What is your most memorable patient reaction?

Tears of gratitude because of life being changed for the better.

What are the most common patient misconceptions about physical therapy?

Misconception: “Physical Therapy is all about eliminating pain”.

The truth: Physical Therapy is all about improving the quality of your life by working on the root causes of your problem and fixing fault lines. Pain is just a phase not a destination of the process. Drugs eliminate pain much faster, but do nothing to correct the root cause of the problem.

Misconception: Physical Therapy is covered by an insurance company and it is for free. Most insurance companies nowadays have high deductibles and some kind of co-pay or co-insurance.

The truth: Physical Therapy services are not free, but we make them affordable and certainly worth every single penny.

Misconception: I will be healthy and active once my pain is gone.

Truth: Once you get active and commit to a healthier life, pain will disappear.

What is the best advice you can give to patients?

Do not procrastinate in getting help. You deserve to be the best version of yourself.

How you invest your time determines your future life. Investing time and resources in Physical therapy will help you become the best version of yourself. Value your health. It is the most valuable possession you have.

How do you manage patient expectations?

I tell patients what I can and cannot achieve, and work to gain their commitment, set goals they care for, and guide them to reach solutions.

What sets your practice apart?

One of the most important values of my company is innovation. We have a myriad of the latest technologies available in our office. For each concern we frequently have 2 to 3 solutions to improve it. We tailor the plans to provide best results in less time and less cost for our clients.

Also, getting to know our patients is important to us. Once we understand patients lives, goals, and circumstances, we are able to better serve them. Knowing our patients helps us change their lives. We speak with honesty, act with integrity, and care deeply.

How does your team enhance your practice?

My team treats every single patient as a VIP. They are friendly and accommodating and will do everything possible to assure our patients are taken care of. They are all extremely knowledgeable, cross trained, and able to answer many patient questions. We build relationships with our patients and help them along the way during their journey. Each member is an integral part of the entire experience. From the first person that greets you, to the moment you leave, we all work together to provide you with excellence of care.

What is your happiest professional moment?

Every time a patient limps in and walks out.

What are you doing differently today?

Anything worth having takes effort, focus, time, dedication, and work. Stretch yourself outside of your comfort zone to grow, get better, improve, and learn.

What is your greatest achievement?

Personally, my twin daughters. Professionally, creating a successful private practice from scratch, and raising my twin daughters while running it. Creating legacy by “infecting” my kids with passion for making a difference and practicing art of Physical Therapy. Honestly, if you asked me 20 years ago what my wildest dreams are, I would not be able to imagine this much happiness and fulfillment. Simply, I would not be able to foresee in my wildest dreams what God had in store for me!

What are you proud of?

Succeeding despite everything. As a woman, refugee, and the first generation immigrant, I am considered a unicorn in a successful business world.
